Education

This continues to be high on our list of priorities, the need to educate the children is only overshadowed by their eagerness to learn. All the parents understand the need to educate their children, but are held back by the costs. They appreciate that if the child is educated not only will the child have a better life but they will be able to support the parents in later years. It never fails to amaze us how eager the children are to learn. They come to school and day care in the morning with huge smiles. This is probably after they have carried out several chores, collecting water or gathering wood.

For 2010-2011 with your help we sent three children to school and provided seven students with help towards university and one student to go on a 3 month placement.
4 students graduated last year, one is in employment, two of the students need to re-sit an exam which will then allow them to apply for work and the 4th student is looking for permanent work. We will update you when we know how they are getting on. The 4 students were easily replaced as we have a list of students that would like support.

Lamesa Ragasa Gelta is in his 3rd year now and your support has paid for rent and food and tuition fees for the year. It will also cover the cost of taking his final exam in the summer.
Yenguse Yaze is in her 2nd year of a nursing course and your support has paid for rent, food and tuition fees for the year.
Mitiku Rundasa is in his 1st year studying Law in Jimma and your support has paid for rent and food and tuition fees for the year.
Ayana Bajuro is in her 1st year studying Secretary Science in Jimma and your support has paid for rent and food and tuition fees for the year.
Yenenesh Agegnhu is in her 1st year studying Nursing and your support has paid for tuition fees for the year.
Yadassa Tasissa is in her 1st year studying Law in Jimma and your support has paid for rent and food and tuition fees for the year.
We also support Rahina Soleman, she is 16yrs old and goes to school in Jimma, your support helps pay for food and she lives with Ayana her cousin.
We also continue to support Emwesh with training materials and transport costs while she is at university and your support will cover her final year.
We have continued to send two children to the Catholic school and your support covers tuition fees and lunch each day.
One student, Nigeste a mother of 2 children both at school themselves, works at the day care centre to support her family and by night attends college and studies nursing, your support this year will allow Nigeste to go on a 3 month placement to put her training into practice, a chance she would not have had without your help.
Finally your support has enabled 46 children to attend the day care centre and receive an education, tea and biscuits in the morning and a meal at lunch time.

The funding for education is so important to all the students, the difficulty is still being able to continue the support year on year. As mentioned many more would like support and as soon as one graduates we always look to support another.
