Green Shoots

One of last years projects was to help 4 girls Truye, Feleg, Enana and Balutu who are now on their own since the death of their mother.  We agreed to fund an oxen to plough over their land and have a well dug.  Apprehensive that the land had not been worked on since we left we went to have a look.  What greeted us were not only the tears of joy from Feleg as she looked up from working the land but the land itself was a true oasis.  All types of vegetables growing along with Chat Bushes (a local narcotic).  Feleg had increased the garden further by digging another patch and planted more vegetables.  The result of this is that they have been able to raise enough funds to build a bigger house for themselves and rent out their old house.  We felt that we would allow one further project at a cost of £100 and pay for a wall around the well and have a lid put on it as we had learnt that a small child had fallen into a neighboring well and drowned.  Feleg would be able to save the money for this herself but we felt that the possibility of a child falling in the well was too much of a risk.  Nevertheless they are now truly self sufficient.
