June 2016 The Day Care Centre continues to be a great success. Over the years it has had many twists and turns but now we have a structure of taking children from 2 years old (once they are toilet trained) up to the age of 6 when they will go to mainstream school. We did this year reflect on how the centre had grown from 15 children under a Mango Tree to 4 classrooms with 228 children, 8 teachers, assistant teachers, cooks, cleaners and a guard. Sister Terfatu who has made this entirely possible still hugs every child it seems on a daily basis. Through our project Ethiopiahope sponsor 45 children, our sponsors are made up of friends and family. The sponsors funding allows the child to have a Montessori education a meal and tea with biscuits twice a day; great value for £75.00 a year, the cost of a year’s subscription to a Sunday newspaper. We also provide clothes and medical treatment if required. The atmosphere within the Centre is amazing always full of laughter, yes the occasional tears of a child on its first day but generally a fun place to be. Watching the children run to greet their friends in the morning, the enthusiastic singing as they line up to go to their classes and the sheer delight at playtime never fails to bring a smile to our faces. All this is the backdrop to their education giving them a sound start in life and allowing the parents to find work knowing they are being cared for. |
