 Day Care

The cost of sponsorship is £75.00 per year for a child in Day Care which includes food. We always have children on our list that need support.

We had sad news that a 3-year-old boy at the centre had a died, the child had a cold so his mother went to the local doctor for traditional medicine as there is a fear of modern medicines.  The child was given a local potion as a cure but unfortunately died.  Every year Sister Terfatu organises short plays and awareness sessions to teach the parents the benefits of modern medicines but still we hear about deaths from local medicines or the ‘Evil Eye’.

It is always great to visit the Day Care Centre numbers now stand at 220 children, 31 being sponsored via Ethiopiahope.  It is noticeable how better dressed the children are, most are coming to the Centre wearing clean clothes and shoes.  When the children arrive in one of the four classrooms each morning they sit in a circle and are asked what they did and what they saw on their way to school. The converstaion is about the taxis, donkeys, goats and friends they saw on their journey in, not unlike our conversation when we arrive at work but with fewer goats and donkeys.

This year we purchased new toys for the Centre some we brought from England and some in Ethiopia. The quality in Ethiopia is very poor but transporting the quality toys from England is difficult.
